Will the Progressive Electoral Wave Roll Through Massachusetts?

ORMA Endorsed Candidates 2026A series of primary victories by DSA candidates across the country has disrupted the political discourse.  Does this signal a significant shift in public opinion?  Or is it just a ripple passing through a small segment of the base of the Democratic Party?  The Massachusetts primaries on September 1^st will indicate the significance. 

What we know already is that there are dozens of progressive candidates.  By progressive,  we mean people who share liberal beliefs in their opposition to MAGA authoritarianism, support civil rights and liberties, including DEI, and rights for LGBTQ+ communities, and oppose the campaign against immigrants, but differ in their belief that major institutional changes are needed to address major social problems:  Single payer medical care, not piecemeal tweaks to insurance benefits; social housing, not an expansion of opportunities for more market housing; free pre-K for all, and a guaranteed minimum wage.

Our Revolution Massachusetts (ORMA) has just announced its endorsements for 2026.   Its selection was based on agreement with the candidate’s platform, active support from at least one ORMA affiliate, and a belief that the campaign has a reasonable chance of making an impact, if not winning.To read more about each candidate

Legislature Passes the PROTECT Act!

Late Thursday night, the MA Legislature finally passed the PROTECT Act!

In a statement on Facebook, Sen. Jamie Eldridge called the bill “the most comprehensive legislation to protect undocumented immigrants in the nation” and posted photos of legislators and advocates celebrating after the Senate voted 21-4 to adopt the bill released by the conference committee late Wednesday afternoon.

By a vote of 137-21, the House also voted to adopt the bill negotiated by the conference committee. Gov. Maura Healey has 10 days to act on it, but in an interview with WGBH radio earlier in the week, she urged legislators to send her the legislation.

This Senate press release summarizes some of the key provisions of the bill and includes statements of support from several advocacy groups. IMC’s Immigration Justice Action Team shared this detailed summary that also includes the full text of the bill, a discussion of provisions the conference committee omitted or changed from the original bills passed by each chamber, and key implementation dates and responsibilities.
